## Death by Chocolate

![](https://opal-trout.pikapod.net/content/images/2026/10/death-by-chocolate-1.png)

- wine glass
- ⅓ cup bittersweet chocolate chips (about 2 oz)
- ¼ cup whole milk
- ½ tsp instant coffee
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 1 ripe avocado (medium size, about 200 grams)
- ¼ cup cacao powder (or cocoa powder)
- 2 tbsp agave (or honey, or maple syrup)
- Pinch of salt
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 4 oz heath bar (chopped)
- 8 oz of chocolate muffin (\~ 1 ½ chocolate muffins, or chocolate cake)
1. **Make the mousse.** Add the chocolate chips and milk to a microwave-safe (preferably non-plastic) bowl and microwave in :30 increments until almost all the way melted, then stir vigorously to finish melting. Add the instant coffee and vanilla and stir to dissolve/combine. Then to a blender, add the avocado, the chocolate mixture, cacao, agave and a pinch of salt and blend until smooth.
2. **Make the whip.** To a bowl, add the heavy cream and sugar and whisk until stiff peaks form. You can use an electric or stand mixer for this to make it easier if you have.
3. **Assemble.** To a large wine glass or other clear serving vessel of choice, crumble the chocolate muffin or cake into the bottom for the first layer. Add the chocolate mousse on top of that and spread to make an even layer, then add most of the heath bar (reserve some for the top) in an even layer, then the whip. Top with remaining heath bar and devour!
- To make a larger version of this for a crowd, you can easily double, triple, quadruple this recipe. How much you make should depend on the size of the vessel you have, so you can fill it up completely. I used a 30 oz wine glass for this, so use that number when calculating for different size vessels you have.
- You can absolutely make your own chocolate cake for this, I just didn’t feel like it! :) I used the chocolate muffins from Costco.
